Union Co. Public Library receives $250 from
Whitewater Valley REMC Community Trust, Inc.
The Union Co. Public Library received $250 during the trustee meeting held July 27, 2009. Whitewater Valley REMC Communications Specialist Sandy Cason presented the check to Young Adult Coordinator Ann Tobin, Artist/Instructor Rebecca Fallat and the painters from Southview Courts: Janice Hamil, Shirley Stanton, Bessie Frost, Maria Kirkendall, Betty Johnson, and Beverly Merz (not pictured).
The grant will help support Union County Art 4 All Ages: Art Instruction and Exhibition at the UC Public Library. Art 4 All Ages includes Art classes and an exhibition for all age groups: Tuesday Senior Painting @ Southview, Thursday Adult Watercolor Class, Monday Children’s Art Classes and Teen 3-D Sculpture Class, as well as a Thursday Music Workshop at the Junction in College Corner! Those interested in attending any of these music/art classes are invited to sign-up at the upstairs Library desk or call Ann at 458-5355. The opening reception for the UC Art 4 All Ages Exhibition is set for Sunday, December 6, 2009, during Liberty’s Christmas in Our Hometown Festival, at the Union County Public Library and the Blue Heron Art Gallery. The Exhibit will continue through December 2009 at the library.

Text: Union County Art 4 All Ages Receives Grant
On Tuesday, July 28, 2009, Blue Heron Art Gallery owner/artist Rebecca Fallat (left), Arts Place's Regional Grants and Development Director Sue Burk (middle) and Union County Public Library's Ann Tobin (right) were among representatives of area arts organizations, artists and arts supporters who gathered at Arts Place in Portland for the announcement of the Regional Partnership Grant Awards for Region Five. Region Five includes twelve counties in East Central Indiana: Adams, Blackford, Delaware, Fayette, Grant, Henry, Jay, Madison, Randolph, Rush, Union and Wayne. Arts Place received 39 grant applications, of which 24 were funded. Union County Public Library was awarded $1805.00 in Mini Grant Support to fund Union County Art 4 All Ages.
These grants are made possible by the Indiana Arts Commission with funds appropriated by the Indiana General Assembly and the US Congress, through the National Endowment for the Arts. State funding had been threatened by a cut of as much as 50%, but after a response by the arts community, which employs around 50,000 people state-wide, the cuts were reduced to about 25%.
